PAJAMA GAME – THE MUSICAL St. James Players – Fall Musical – November 16 – 24, 2012 at Showplace Peterborough.
St. James Players celebrates its 40th Anniversary this November and we have selected Pajama Game as our fall musical. Pajama Game concerns the battle over a 7.5 cent raise between management and labor at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory. Amidst the conflict, a romance ensues between the new superintendent, Sid, and the leader of the Union Grievance Committee, Babe. Not surprisingly, their romance is all the more difficult given their opposing sides in the labor dispute. Eventually, management agrees to the raise, and peace reigns in the factory as well as in Sid and Babe's love life.
Music and Lyrics by Richard Adler & Jerry Ross. Choreography by Bob Fosse.
Songs from the show include: A New Town is a Blue Town; Hey there; Steam Heat, Hernando’s Hideaway; There Once was a Man; and many other terrific chorus numbers.
Auditions: May 9 and 10, 2012, from 6:30 – 9:00 pm in Wesley Hall, 3rd Floor, St. James United Church, corner of Romaine and Aylmer Street, Peterborough, Ontario. Adults 18 and over invited to audition. Please bring sheet music and be prepared to sing.
"The Rockin' Tale of Snow White", Spring 2012 Musical Production
Show Dates: March 30, 31 & April 1 at St. James Church Auditorium.
Synopsis:
The tale of Snow White has never felt so fresh and new with this funny adaptation that will make even the most jaded among us laugh out loud! New characters and comedic twists come to life as a modern mom reads the Brothers Grimm tale to her restless children. In addition to the well-known cast of the kind princess, evil queen, multiple dwarves and the morally conflicted Huntsman, this musical introduces us to some fresh new faces such as rhyme-happy ladies-in-waiting and a stick-in-the-mud governmental representative out to ruin everyone’s good time! (He nabs the Huntsman for attempting to kill a wild pig without a hunting license and fines a dwarf for picking a bouquet of state flowers!) Musical styles of all genres fuse to create a rousing mixture of hip-hop, rock and roll, doo wop and more! With its tongue-in-cheek humor, catchy songs and an unbelievably flexible cast that can absorb a “cast of thousands,” this show is a must-have for anyone wanting to give scores of children the joys of being in a musical.

Big Bad Musical - Spring 2011
A courtroom has never been more lively and fun than in The Big Bad Musical! This smart and wickedly funny musical is great for actors and audiences of any age. The jury — your audience — must decide the outcome of the biggest trial ever in the fairy-tale world! The notorious Big Bad Wolf is being slapped with a class-action lawsuit by storybooks of quirky characters who want to get even: Little Red Riding Hood, her Grandmother, the Three Little Pigs and the Shepherd in charge of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. With Sydney Grimm as the commentator on live Court TV, the two greatest legal minds in the Enchanted Forest — the Evil Stepmother and the Fairy Godmother — clash in a trial that will be remembered forever after. As our wronged fairy tale characters testify, the wolf seems deserving of all that’s coming. Yet, even though the infamous Evil Stepmother resents doing pro-bono work on such an obviously futile defense, Mr. Wolf makes a good case for himself. Was he born a criminal, or made one? This musical has it all — minimal set and costume requirements, a good balance of stage time for each character, multiple endings to make every performance unique and Bill Francoeur’s toe-tapping tunes!
Doo Wop Wed Widing Hood – Spring 2010
This was an excellent production which was directed by Erin Maxfield who did a great job for her directing debut. The cast were very enthusiastic and committed with a lot of newcomers. We are still having difficulty to get people for costumes, small props and advertising, therefore, the Production team was comprised of some of the Board of Directors. We did have a bit of a setback with the music for the run of the show but it worked out in the long run. Also the Director and Producer had to do other jobs to ensure things were done and to make the show a big success.
My Fair Lady – Fall 2010
We decided to go with a well known and popular show hoping that the ticket sales would go well. Ticket sales went well at the Church box office, and really picked up the second week of the run. After losing money in 2009 we made a profit in 2010 which we will be able to give back to the charities we sponsor and to the church.
A big thank you to the St. James Players Board of Directors, volunteers, and St. James church congregation for all you do and your continued support for our productions.
